Just a stone's throw away from Marienplatz, the Museum for Urban and Contemporary Art (MUCA), the first of its kind in Germany, has been opened in a former municipal substation.
At MUCA, the young art form of urban and street art has been brought from the street to the museum for the first time. The black and white facade of the museum was designed by renowned street artist Stohead, and is work of art in itself.
Inside, an extraordinary collection of works by national and international artists such as Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Vhils und Herakut await visitors. However, MUCA was not intended as a museum in the traditional sense, but as a contemporary location for art enthusiasts.
In the main building as well as in the adjacent MUCA Bunker, a high-calibre exhibition programme can be found in changing special exhibitions as well as in the framework of the "Permanent Collection".
